Artist's Description

This black and white archival pigment print is a serendipitous result of my umbrella being blown out of my hand while shooting a wedding. As soon as I saw the wonderful textures surrounding the umbrella I knew that the bride and groom would have to wait a few seconds for me to get this shot. Actually my partner had it under control and got the shot of the lovely couple while I retrieved my umbrella. Slightly embarrassing, but worth it!

Thomas Lavoie

My passion for photography began with capturing images on a Sony Mavica while on tour in Europe as a professional trumpet player in 2001 and 2002. Frustration with the limitations of this early digital camera in the dim light of cathedrals and opera houses motivated me to upgrade my equipment and begin a lifetime of learning and developing my skills as a photographer. Soon after acquiring my first professional DSLR, I sold my first press image to The Valley News in White River Junction, VT. That image ran the next day "front page above the fold".  This initial taste of success encouraged me to study photography and Photoshop techniques with some of the worlds most noted photographers including Jay Maisel, George DeWolfe, Rick Sammon,...
